A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.

Creeping Wednesday #15

Welcome to the 15th Creeping Wednesday! This time we'll talk about hair in all its beauty. On wikipedia, we can find this definition: "... a Family is a group of people affiliated by consanguinity, affinity, or co-residence.
In #AllArtSupport we like to think that we are a family too. A family is about more than being related; is about being there when one needs you, is about feeling good only thinking about the ones you Care of.
This time, the contest we're holding has a deep meaning because many around us, possibly even us, sometimes forget what "Family" truly means or how important it is and we'd really like to make you all think more about it. This is all about reminding and celebrating the Family values.

Contest; Summer ThemeIt's not official yet. If you want this contest to be held, you must comment on this blog to tell me if you will be entering. From the last entry I posted for if the group would like to have a contest or not, most of the replies were that it would, but only if it was themed by summer. I agreed with that, and so this contest will be set on this/next season.
As this group accepts all media, every art style would be allowed to participate, but the only media that would not be allowed in the contest would be a blog (It would have to be a actual literature submission, please).
Now, as the contest is themed by summer, the entries will have to have some sort of reference to it. It could be anything from a sunny sky to a surreal landscape. That doesn't mean it has to be a cheery piece though, just as long as it

Springtime Contest 2012It is not about winning or prizes, but about challenging yourself to create more Saiunkoku Monogatari fanworks, for all of us to enjoy! And for everyone to have fun in the process!
(A) “Springtime” Theme
Show any Saiunkoku Monogatari character(s) in any spring-themed situation. It doesn't have to be just about sakura or flowers or Valentine's Day. It can be centred on a spring festival/custom/food that's unique to your country/culture (but please give a little write-up on the folk custom in your description box so that the rest of us know what it's about – it's fun to share! ^^), or even one that exists only in your imagination! It can even be a costume or hair accessory that a particular Saiunkoku character may wear in spring! Let your imagination run free!

I know many of you are still in school/college,

Self taught artists.I bet most of you've noticed people labeling themselves as "self taught artists". I still wonder if this is actually a guarantee for quality... man, or if this is even relevant, at all. Considering all those social parameters of course.
A good friend of mine once told me she could teach me how to use colours in a special way because she taught everything she knows by herselves. I replied that I know many things about contrasts and colours due to my apprenticeship. (I am a media designer, but I consider that job rather a craft than art but nevertheless you're taught creative things.) She told me it's not worth much because she got a unique view on this matter because of the "self taught" thing. Not being influenced by a teacher and stuff. Yeah.
Aren't we all self taught artists to the point we're actually able to chose to get some education like art classes or books? And even if we don't take courses. How should anyone be able to learn anything without experience? W
